Earth retaining walls are common in most construction, but
can be extremely expensive depending on approach. Costs
of $30 to $40 per square foot of wall face are usually found.
PND invested in research and development and subsequently
lowered this cost by developing a wall, of increased life
expectancy, which could be built using un-skilled labor
and a minimum of imported materials. Structure requirements
resulted in a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing geotextile
and timber wall which costs less than $20 per square foot
to construct. The first application, for a harbor parking
area in Juneau, reduced project cost by over fifty percent.
There are currently plans for construction of additional
walls, including a 20-foot-high wall in Washington.
