Jesse Engineering Company and PND were selected by Carnival
Corporation to design and build a Passenger Boarding Gangway
to facilitate the boarding of passengers onto the cruise
ships using the Long Beach Cruise Terminal at the Queen
Mary in California.
Key Features included in the design:
• Fixed system minimized loading requirements of dock.
• Minimal foot-print.
• Full ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant
with 5% maximum slopes on 304-feet of ramp.
• System automatically adjusts vertically for the changing
tide levels.
• Accommodates 66-foot range parallel to the face of the
dock by means of a movable cabin
• Screw jacks provide safe and reliable vertical lifting
system.
• Capable of accessing vessel doors from approximately
+10 feet to +40 feet above dock.
• Fully covered walkways
• Seismic resistant per California code
• Prefabricated and shop tested minimized erection time.
"There's nothing like it in
the world. It's fully functional throughout the tide, staying
within ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements
at all time. Except for the deepest draft ships, maybe two,
we can handle every cruise ship in the world here."
