Road rehabilitation
in Mt. Hood National Forest in Estacada, Oregon.
This project
included reconstruction
and repair
work on several different roads, and/or road
reconditioning and/or realignment. PND engineers
designed several
pipe arches with hydrological analysis and riprap
embankments to repair landslides. Contract specifications
and
construction
cost estimates were prepared.
In addition, the Clackamas River Fish Passages
were completed in Mt. Hood National Forest. PND provided
designs on
seven projects in the Mt. Hood National Forest,
two of which involved fish passages. One of these
projects involved
the design of fish passages to re-create fish
habitat for spawning in a channel cut off from the
Clackamas
River by a highway. Two 6-foot diameter pipe
arches were used to divert water from the river into
the new
channel.
PND also prepared PS&E designs for fish passage
structures including pipe arches with baffles
and designed stream
modifications to promote fish passage. In addition,
we designed structures to minimize potential
for debris
clogging and failure through use of concrete
structures with high-pile debris deflectors.
Road repairs in Willamette National
Forest in Oakridge, Oregon. Repairs were made to over
20 roads in this area at various times during the term
of this contract. They included repair of eroded asphalt
pavement and embankment, a geotextile-reinforced roadway
embankment, replacement of culverts, and a road realignment
that included a rock-armored slope. One of the largest
projects consisted of a road realignment where a creek-overtopped
roadway was repaired with a new culvert with an embankment
fill and a vertical sag curve. Projects also involved
preparing contract specifications and construction cost
estimates. In particular, the Blue River Road Repair
entailed realignment of a two-lane asphalt road around
an area that had sloughed because of a high water table.
